Nokia Nuron spotted again, connection to 5230 cemented?
Dear Nokia fan clinging on to all hope that the 5230 and Nuron were two separate entities, whereby you'd have even more Espoo devices to look forward to: you're wrong. TmoNews has picked up what's purported to be another internal T-Mobile documentation for the 5230 Nuron. Like the previously-rumored leak, it's said to be going on sale on March 17 with a 3.2-inch touchscreen, on-screen keyboard, and Ovi Store. Oh, and just in case you weren't sure if you fit the target audience, see if you qualify as "connected socializers, 20 to 40 years old, who are new to the touch screen category." That's gotta count for at least a few readers out there.

glad to see some of Espoo's devices making it state side hope more are coming out soon. I am an unlocked fan but I'd be happier to see more nokia's in hands instead of iphone
@mv This cousin of the 5800 trades wi-fi and some camera resolution for a more affordable price tag. This smartphone is otherwise full-featured, including a large touch display, 2-megapixel camera, GPS navigation, memory card slot, and accelerometer.

At least that home screen looks somewhat different from other S60v5 phones around. Or do I have to say Symbian^1 now?
@fernando Don't bother with the name. I hope they improved usability of it. Engadget review of N97 was brutal when it came out...
@Bruno Heeavy emphasis on "when it came out" though, updates have improved the phone a hundred fold since it's rocky launch.
Disappointing
You know, Nokia has a huge opportunity with Symbian^3 to upgrade current offering from the 5xxx series and n97/n97 mini and produce a huge marketshare out of the gate... A $200 unlocked phone with some nice features certainly has a place in the current economic climate.
@nickyP
Symbian 3 isnt ready yet.
The success of this phone will depend on the price of required data contract. 30$ a month will probably kill it.
@Bruno +1
These $30 data plans are killing everyone.
@Bruno
Friend just bought one for £99 sim free and its a nice phone, does everything you might need and for that price you can forgive the resistive screen which actually is pretty responsive.
Another random phone
Resisitve screen.
:(
@JONNNathannn
That;s why you have to be "new to the touch screen category".
A phone for people who don't know any better.
@Gregorian
I have to admit, if its a good resistive screen, I have no problems. I'll take a good resistive over a bad capacitive any day.
On the other hand, mid-range capacitive screens vs. good resistive and there is no question, I'm choosing the capacitive one.
Free Ovi maps navigation ftw!
I'm really not sure about these naming schemes. Neuron keeps reminding me that it rhymes with moron.
@ToniCipriani
I never made that connection.
Its supposed to be like a neuron, or a nerve cell. With this one device, you can stay connected to everything.
I'd love it if they were more creative with their names though.
Too little too late Nokia. I'm seeing more and more people, even girls, loving the Moto Cliq. If this thing is supposed to target "Connected Socializer," it better have somekind of facebook/twitter integration that is a lot better than the Cliq, for cheap ($99 or less under contract). Other than that, too late into the game.
@pika2000 Not sure why they could be late in the game, considering the market is still in its infancy and growing.
Moto Cliq? Oh pleeease. Most people haven't even heard of it.
Android came in a market where Apple, RIM and Nokia already have a strong presence, was Google late in the game too?
@WickedEast Exactly. All you have to do is put a shortcut to Facebook and Twitter on the home screen and people will get it if it's cheap enough.
@aubreyq
So true, friends daughter bought one on payg for silly cheap and wanted it because it does facebook on the home screen.
Please Nokia don't be shy, go the maemo 6 way with all your touchscreen phones! All the way FTW
This is monkey crap,i'd rather pay $400 for a Nokia n900 and use the $10 unlimited plan since it's an unlocked phone t-mobile can't enforce the correct data plan.
@pachi72 Yup, it really sucks to have 40% marketshare in smartphones and ~1B$ of profit a quarter.
Why is this phone so thick?
@good grief Agreed, it looks big for not having a physical qwerty
@good grief
Because its cheap, costs more to make phones thin and strong.
@good grief Not everything needs to look like an iPhone.
There are different markets for different phones as it is shown by 40% of nokia's market share (outside USA of course). Maybe in USA everything needs to look like an iPhone and behave like one (hence all the crying for pinch and zoom for the Nexus one)
@Mr w00t
What the hell are you going on about? We're commenting on the thickness of the device, no one even mentioned that "other" phone. Or are you implying that the iPhone is the only phone which can be thin, or that they have some sort of monopoly on thin phones?
@tonicboy Indeed, I am paranoid android over this issue... Still the argument persists that not everything needs to be thin-and-slick looking like nexus one. So my point was that there are different markets for different phones
@madmac thanks dude... sometimes I get carried away believing that iPad will actually make my life better :P
@Mr w00t wrong. phone thickness is certainly an issue when considering a touchscreen phone with no keyboard. I'd guess that the phone is 15-17mm thick, which is close to G1 or Touch Pro 2 thickness, both of which have keyboards. It's especially galling for Nokia, whose best known US phones have been the super slim E71x and 5310XM, both coming in at 9.9mm.
@good grief I don't know why it's that thick. Maybe it's because it's more narrow and because of the material of the shell.
But one think I do know is that it feels great in the hand -- it feels so natural and easy to manipulate with one hand.
wrong. you are putting your wishes over someone elses. you might think that phones should be razor thin, others might think that a thicker phone will have a better handling.
dont buy into the "i have the slimest" if so, try a macgbook air and tell me if a thicker computer isnt better he?
It is just named this way so our American brothers can understand.
5800, 5320, E72, N900... Too many numbers.
@Ross "connected socializers, 20 to 40 years old, who are new to the touch screen category." You forgot to name TMo in this quote but I came here to help you to remember :)
free navigation with ovi maps on the 5230. i hope tmo doesn't muck that up. AWS bands and having maps permanently stored on the device sure would make this a worthwhile entry
From the looks of this, Nokia is aiming for the teen/Sidekick market. That's all well and good, until said teen tries their hand at S60v5.
Somebody wake me up when Nokia releases an 'N98' running Meamo 6.
So many armchair quarterbacks missing what this phone is about.
Cheapness, my friends, cheapness.
This handset has just been released into Australia a few months back and is quite nice, it's basically a 5800 with a updated software, 2 mpx camera rather then 3.2, aswell as being bundled with 2gb microsd instead of 8. Of course that awful Comes with Music thing is gone too. But free navigation on Ovi Maps, it'll be a good little buy if the price is right, considering you can get a 5800 unlocked and outright in Oz for $380 AUD
I might pick this up as a secondary to my Nexi.
It looks like a nice little phone, it's only missing WiFi. But i guess that's not a problem if you have a good data plan.
I'm ready to trade my G1 in for a Nokia X6 32gb already. Release it Tmo. I'm getting tired of waiting.
