Look familiar? Yep, this is precisely what we expected HTC's rumored
Legend to look like based on the
renders we'd seen so far. We don't have any information here other than the pictures themselves, but from what we can gather, it seems to carry over Sense as we know it today without a trace of that
freshened look we've caught in recent months (not unlike its
Incredible cousin). Maybe more importantly, the Legend looks like it might be kicking off a new styling direction for the company with a big, bold, chromed company logo around back and an aluminum shell that we suspect feels awesome in the hand -- particularly if it's pre-production aluminum. More on this one as we get it; in the meantime, check out a shot of the back after the break.
[Thanks, anonymous tipster]
HTC really are pioneering the new-gen smartphone market, eh?
@Almo
htc is the hero of the smart phone world.
htc is incredible.
htc is legend --wait for it --dary.
htc is launching phones at a supersonic rate.
that's all for now...
@Wildman - VERBS FOR THE WIN!
@POZ Hmm, I think you mean adjectives FTW.
Anyways, any word on what carrier this could come out on? GSM or CDMA?
@Almo That is what we do. Witness late-Q3/early-Q4 device pwnge with U i refresh sense
@Almo
I think they should just keep the old nomenclature..
8125,8525,8925,etc,etc,etc
@Almo Impressive, The HTC Legend is set to land in March 2010 according to the slides, which puts it in for an appearance post the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona from 15th – 18th February.

how dare they bringing out a phone without the mighty snapdragon
@Xstream makes it cheaper though
@Xstream I agree, I can't take any new phones seriously unless they have a Snapdragon.
-Sent from my nexus one :)
@Xstream
It's has a Snapdragon platform, just not the one we all know and love.
This is using the MSM7227 series, which Qualcomm says is part of the Snapdragon line, it's basically an upgraded version of the MSM7200 series in previous HTC smartphones. (It's got a slightly faster processor (600MHz), a faster DSP, a VGA video encoder and a better GPU)
This is also used in the Palm Pixi. (Though that's the MSM7627, which has CDMA, rather than GSM)

@TT
Whoops, that's WVGA video encoder, not VGA...
@Xstream
I want to upgrade my trusty HTC Hero, but I am upgrading it only to a Supersonic or a Nexus1 (as soon as I can grab one).
For the meantime I'll make do with the Hero and with my HD2 waiting for an Android phone with an hardware and a voice dialer as good as those of the HD2.
@Plexus
I cant wait until the htc legend and supersonic come to sprint. They are some cool phones and i really want one. As for the nexus one, i dont know if i like the design but it is a cool phone. I dont know if you heard but their will be a new palm c40 phone that might have a fast speed aka snapdragon. so im waiting for palm c40, htc legend, and supersonic!!!!
@Xstream - I am personally waiting to see is anything with SCORPION is announced.
@Xstream where did you read that it would not have a snapdragon?? i always thought these new phones would have it
@pete42 well the leaks about this phone said that it runs a 600mhz processor which may be from the snapdragon line but sure isn't as powerful as the nexus one's or supersonic's cpu
Mmm, not too keen on the looks.
Too many smartphones, too many choices. Frankly, I've stopped caring about most HTC releases anymore...
@ajcfreak
I love choice and HTC bring plenty of it!
@ajcfreak
Too many choices? What are you smoking?
@HardToBelieve
Probably some THC
@tklr08 i alway think that when i look at any HTC phone lol.
Dropping on Verizon?
FM Radio, nice.
@513
I hope it has a fax machine too.
@DestrictoEnse
A toaster might be nice. A treadmill is a stretch, so we'll have to wait a few years for that.
@HardToBelieve HTC Incline
@DestrictoEnse Fax machine? You must be crazy... We all know the iPhone is the only phone that gets useless cool accessories :(
Any word on what carrier it's going to be on?
This one looks AT&T bound. 1st gen iPhone type of back
"particularly if it's pre-production aluminum"
A veiled reference to the tendency for pre-production, prototype or review products to be better put together than retail units? God knows I've seen enough of that in my time, especially from Nokia.
HAAAWWWT
I'm not seeing how that back plate comes off...please tell me they didn't seal the battery in!
@Tes That's the same thing I was wondering about the "Incredible" how the hell you get to the battery.
@Tes
There's probably a notch at the top where you can pop it off, a la the Droid Eris.
at&t, u keep it.
us verizon boys will continue being INCREDIBLE! :)
@aleis
And I'll be supersonic on Sprint. But now I sound like a frat boy from the '90s.
@HardToBelieve Except when you get all of the Chaos Emeralds, you become Super Sonic, which is just as awesome.
Fucking love HTC.
Ugh, HTC is turning into RIM by pumping out all these phones.
I wanna hear more about the Supersonic though. A WiMax phone with Snapdragon and the HD2's screen is a lot nicer than another 3G Sense phone.
@HurricaneDC "Ugh, HTC is turning into RIM by pumping out all these phones." How do you figure, Rim makes the same damn phone over and over some wider, some fatter, some taller, some shorter, but still the same phone, at least HTC has thrown out some very distinguished designs for all carriers.
@HurricaneDC "Ugh, HTC is turning into RIM by pumping out all these phones."
Yeah, and who would want to be like RIM, selling more phones than any other smartphone maker.
@McPOW
What about Nokia?
I caved and bought a Nexus yesterday.
I tried so hard to wait for an android version of the HD2.
@PapaSteveZ You made the right choice, you'll love the nexus one
@PapaSteveZ As soon as a 850/1900 Nexus is available... it's mine.
@Mister Thats what I kept saying (broken iPhone right now with contract up in july)... Im just going to edge it out till then and make the switch to t-mob. Its much cheaper over there anyway....
@Mister
Yeah, me too. I can't justify dropping $400-500 on an unlocked, web surfing super-phone, only to have it on EDGE.
Legend, Incredible, Supersonic...lookin forward to the HTC F**kin A and HTC The S**t next...
