Current MacBook Pro SKU given mark of death in Best Buy database?
We'll admit to not being leading the field of study in Best Buy-ology, but here comes a new quiz for us care of a tipster who sent TUAW a screenshot of the inventory screen that shows what looks to be the current MacBook Pro SKU with status: deleted. What that means is no new orders can be made for that unit, at least for that particular store. Sign of impending MBP refresh? Intel certainly had us riled up last month with that Core i5-infused flier, but we won't get fooled again. Don't hold your breath for this one, but if more telltale signs start popping up, we'll be sure let ya know.
Update: Giving credit where due; the image originates from the MacRumors forums.
Update II: Another tipster familiar with Best Buy's systems wrote in and noted that "Deleted only means that the that particular store is having it pulled from their planogramed assortment." Sorry to burst your bubble.
[Thanks, Jose R]

Amazing, it's almost like they're going to release a new model. You know, like what every other computer manufacturer does every 6-9 months.
@Leindurstit
True that. But either way, you don't want to get caught dropping $1200+ on something that will be deemed outdated in a few weeks...
@erik1080 You mean like the one I bought Friday? I played the odds, thinking that most of the potential upgrades I wasn't interested in, but didn't figure it would be so soon.
@Dorv
You're fine, the i5 in a laptop is not mind blowing and I doubt Apple will change anything else.
@Leindurstit
Too late. I spent my 17" MBP savings on different brand. I am satisfied with what I got regardless of whatever Apple might release in the coming months.
I WORK FOR BEST BUY, THAT SCREEN SHOT IS NOT A FULL DETAIL SCREEN SHOT, IT SAYS DELETED CAUSE THEY ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE ANYMORE, ITS GONE IS COMPLETELY GONE. NOW ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS HIT "ADDITIONAL DETAILS" AND WE WILL ALL KNOW THE EXACT DATE WHEN THE NEW LAPTOPS WILL BE IN. LIKE I SAID I WORK FOR BEST BUY I CAN FIND OUT BUT THIS CAN LEAD TO MY TERMINATION. I'll find our message if you can within 2 days
Simpsons did it.
Man people get upset over Apple stories. Anyway, wish I could pop my Late '08 MBP and put in a Core i5 or i7 processor. Oh well. be a great performance boost for MBP's!
sitting here waiting with 2k, cmon apple.
Me too. Let's get this show on the road.
@rmbrown09
Word, but I'm going 13" and hoping my company buys. If not, the toy savings account is brimming.
@UnixSystemsEngineer
mm i dunno about the 13 bro, almost guarantee they wont be throwing i7 in there. most likely not an i5. probably i3
itll be too hot and power hungry. maybe though.
@rmbrown09
I am in the same boat. Let's do this Apple!
It's about time for a refresh anyway isn't it?
About how much could I see off of the old model when the new ones come in?
i've saved up 700/3k on my dream laptop. hopefully this will go by faster when i have my license and a job.
The new MacBook Pro has an Intel Core i7 M 620 at 2.66Ghz.
what the mac pro's really need is a price drop.
"Marked for death" means one thing — St. Peter is going to be fucking confused by the lack of trackpad buttons when MacBookPro is dropped off at the pearly gates. He'll be like "Jesus! How do I right click on this thing?" and Jesus will be like "The trackpad is a button bro, but I recommend you get one of those logitech mice"
I would never credit Macrumors for anything. All they do is steal other people's news and lurch their own forums.I hate that site.
Without doubt I enjoy reading the pain of the apple haters posts. These levels of jealousy can't be helping the blood pressure...
@to86
Who are you replying to? I don't see anybody complaining in this thread about this topic.
@bjsguess lol, they have deleted all of them, and no I'm not hallucinating!
@scjessey The post went live initially without the proper Apple tag, given those wishing to avoid Cupertino's byproducts an unintentional glimpse at the other side. We've fixed the rift.
Make room for the MacBook Jumbo. Four times the size, no flash, no multi-tasking.
Deleted doesn't always mean it's going away, it could also mean items are constrained from the vendor so BB isn't placing any orders until they are able to. "Discontinued" is the true mark of death on BB system screens. There's also performance codes buried in there for more info, but the screen above doesn't show me much...
@Ante Up
Actually, deleted does mean we no longer will carry that particular.
Deleted and discontinued are both bad signs (at least for anyone wanting that, lol.)
Ima take a look at our region when I get back to work tomorrow.
@Ante Up
lol, ow3nd.
Put NVIDIA Optimus highest end Fermi GPU WITH a external GPU dock and SSD, RGBLED Screen? Nah I'm just dreaming but I want 16 GB of RAM.
hmmmm would apple really upgrade their product right after the ipad intro?
@HAWKZ
I think that would be a very, very smart move on their part right now.
@andthemaniam
ya they have everyones atrention now for the upgrade
Eager to see what they will do about the graphics situation. Discreet cards in the larger models for sure, but the 13 incher might be in for a graphics downgrade. Hopefully they will pull some ninja stuff off and have discreet AMD graphics across the board, with on-the-fly switching like PC laptops already have.
@Nitesh Apple doesn't do AMD.
@Ploni Almoni Not AMD CPU's, but they do use AMD graphics chips in some models. Look at the high end iMac.
Apple is so money hungry. Go to their website and look at their refurb models. They will only give you 15% off a 2yr old refurbished laptop. That is Fucking ridiculous.
@kj4gr
Sure, if it were a poorly built PC. However, it's an established fact that Macs hold their value better than PCs do. Go ahead, check eBay and see for yourself.
Yep, already set aside 2k in my bank, hurry :)
Probably a refresh coming. Probably going to have Core i5, and IPS LCDs.
is it me or is the apple releases just an excuse for apple guys (no i didn't say fanboys, because i love my iphone) to brag about how they are about to drop 2k on a laptop, 2k!!! can you just imagine the pc based computer for 2k (run ubuntu on it if you will), the performance difference is just well... amazing
@McKooter $2k sure goes a long way for computer builders. It might even be a little /too/ much. (See: Kratos case mod)
@(Unverified)
@McKooter
you might think 2k is a lot for a laptop, but i had ordered my envy 15, came to 1850 and it had the same specs that most believe these new MBP's will have.
+Optical drive
+OSx (without custom installs)
+7 hour battery without extra "slice"
I cancelled my Envy order yesterday.
Just in time for tax season
As mentioned, the screenshot isn't a complete screen, so hard to deduce much. Sometimes they also have duplicate listings in their database and delete them.
That doesn't mean it's actually deleted, it just simply means that store doesn't stock it. My store for instance doesn't care mac computers do all of the mac sku's show this status.
@Paradox
Exactly my store does the exact same thing. anything the store isnt merched for shows up as "deleted". the "perf codes" are the things you really want to look at. if thats x,y,z. then you have an issue
why are seemingly all images reporting rumors taken in bad light with a lot of noise?
regardless, cool! this would seem to indicate an update to the macbook pro line. I must say I will be a bit disappointed if an update does not include i5 chips.
Australian retailer Dick Smith is listing Macbook Pro models as "On Backorder
Out of stock, due 13-Feb-2010, we will backorder for you and despatch asap." Store stock is also listed as almost non-existent.
e.g. http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/4b70ff0b01731da6273fc0a87e0106a8/Product/View/XC4382
The 13th could be your lucky day for model refresh hopefuls...
It could be a refresh of the line and it probably is, BUT I did work for Best Buy and that screen could be anything from FMS,OMS or Geek Squad and it could be a customers order that was deleted. Just saying.
I think this seals the deal.

apple store is down...
