@Ioncloud9
I didn't think about that, but that's a good point!
Will there be an iPad appearance?
@Fest
Only in the "anticipated device of 2010", this is voting for the 2009 year products.
how in the world is the iMac 27" winning the desktop of the year? Does nobody care that it's plagued with as yet unfixed screen issues? It's a terrible release in Apple's terms
@gadgetfanboy
i meant during the award show.. bad joke
@cswright
I use it every day since it was released at work (10hrs+) guy... its not "plagued."
Haven't you realized how news works? The big news is blown up, like how many people have you seen murdered? But its on the news every night...
@cswright
The imac is only winning because it is the only apple product in that category, so fanboys have only one option.
There seems to be an error. The iPhone/DS are in game console. These are portables, very very different.
@cswright
People love anything with an i or apple in front of it, regardless of it's actual merits.
@Tiptup300 Also one is a freaking phone.
@Tiptup300 Portable game consoles.
@cswright If you bash apple they will ban the comments again.
@Fest
yes and it will win.
I dont exactly think this poll is accurate.
too much of the whole
6 PCs vs 1 Mac....
too divided. You need to get finalists... then repost.
That would be more accurate.
The MacMini is still the best Apple product. And the 2009 is the best Mini ever. Its the most solid Apple product in terms of production faults, it's the most open Apple products as it can be hacked, expanded at wish with a decent Microsoft pro keyboard and serious Eizo or NEC screens, fast enough for 99% of computer use, it does not pull too much fanboy attention and it's the most environmental friendly computer, the longest lifetime and the lowest pricedrop second hand.
@cswright The same reason we want Toyotas. Little things like design defects cannot dent the lust for 27 inches of screen real estate.
why wasn't the nexus one in the most anticipated gadget of 2010 .. I was more excited about that than the ipad
@dooglehead
That makes zero sense. The voters of every option up there are "fanboys", since you obviously would need to be a fan of a product to vote for it.
@dooglehead
In a few categories people are choosing things just because they're Apple and they don't know anything about the other choices.
And Engadget is also at error for which devices can be placed where. If the iPhone counts as a portable gaming system then the Droid/Nexus One/Pre count as portable gaming systems.
@cswright The iMac wins because I can just barely build a PC with a 2560 WUXGA display, Core i5 Quad, HD4850 and the other pieces plus Windows 7 for $2k. And it wouldn't be all one piece designed together and run Mac OS X or look as good. But you are right, the screen issues and such have been a blemish on an otherwise OUTSTANDING machine. Fix the screen and add BluRay and it knocks it out of the park!
@HardToBelieve
People voted devices into these categories. Remember those posts from awhile back? I find it hard to believe that you don't understand why the iPhone is considered a portable gaming device while the Droid/Pre are not (yet anyway). Even Joystiq understands this.
Could there be any more evidence of how much of an Apple Fanboy site this is?
@HardToBelieve
Not so much... the iPhone has the App Store which has tons upon tons of games, making it a viable gaming device.
@cswright You're right. It's beyond rationality why anyone would vote this flawed desktop the "best" of 2009. Read away on the latest of the continuous and ongoing bad news re the iMac 27: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/01/AR2010020103636.html
@Tiptup300 I do agree with you slightly about the DS, but the iPhone ##probably## has the most fun games on a mobile phone. (And no I am not an Apple fan-boy, I live in a house with 7 PCs, and one iMac and my iPhone)
@cswright
I have one, and I know 7 more people who also do, and none of us have had any problems with them.
I'm sure that many people have problems with their iMacs, and the reports are all over the place, but apparently those problems aren't as common as the media makes you believe they are.
@Mr iPhone
Your sorely mistaken the DS is by far the best portable game system to ever exist. Have you played Advanced wars Dual strike, kirby canvas cusre, Or one of the Zelda games on the DS????? your smoking crack homeboy.
@Hydra
Comment of the year
@gadgetfanboy Had it since release, not had a problem nor have 2 of my friends that have em. Media exaggeration again.
Engadget, you should just call it the "Apple awards"...
@Flaimdude
at what point does a phone become a gaming device?
i can get various (albeit useless) games on my winmo phone but does that make it a gaming device?
@Fest
Most Anticipated Gadget of 2010
why not Nexus One?
@cswright
The screen problem has been solved with the second firmware update.
@dooglehead
Exactly. The comparisons are difficult and inherently biased since Apple products have a generic name, ie "MacBook Pro" (yeah, but which one?) so Apple fanboyz just choose one and move on.
To be directly comparable other vendors, such as Sony, should have their same-class products united, ie "Sony VAIO (professional series)"... Z, SR, etc. Because if it's only one, it will definitely lose out to Apple.
@crappypunk
yeah me 2... I'm waiting for news on if/when att will release the nexusone EVERYDAY!!! :(
Come on ATT, you know we want it.. Man up!!!
@Fest
These "awards" are like this every year, I don't know why people continue to make a fuss about it. It's basically just a cheap way to bring attention to Apple products, that's all.
These "awards" rank up there with the NBA All-Star game where Tracy McGrady is voted to start, even though he hasn't even played much this year. Every year, Apple products end up in categories where they don't belong, AND in the categories where they do belong they tend to do waaaay better than they should due to fanboyism.
Just relax, and let the thing run it's course and then let's move on.
@cswright I have a 27" i7 iMac and its great. Never been a problem. I have a couple of friends with the i5 and core 2 duo and they also love their iMac.
@cswright Along with being an Apple product (as mentioned earlier). It's also the most recognizable product. Looking at the others a lot of poeple are going to think "What are these others, ah, iMac, I know that one."
@JoeBlow agreed, the only worth while apple product I see here is the ipod touch (zune hd owner), everything else I am dissapoint.
@gadgetfanboy VOTE IPHONE 3GS!!! NEED MORE VOTES!!!!
@cswright All you mac haters just say that stuff cuz you want to be different even if the different device is not as good as they apple device... its like the droid vs the iphone
droid is different engadget likes it and its probly best for nerds while
Iphone is what everyone likes cuz its amazing so you have to hate it...
You can find these types of people everywhere...
P.S i bet you guys havnt even tried the imac 27 inc. so how can u judge it?
@Aubrey
Anybody else find it ironic that there are enough Apple fanboys to get the Apple products to win every category they are in, but they are always downranked into oblivion? Just sayin'...
@Hotmuffin
I bet you haven't even tried using the Droid, so why do you say it is only for nerds? Also, this is a forum for discussion, not to type comments like we have not finished middle school. Now, I am as big a fan of Apple as the next, but I will not buy the iPhone in the current state. It may have 140,000 apps, but all I need is the 10-15 that are actually productive. I don't want or need to sound like T-Pain at any moment.
@zoby That's bogus. I built a computer for a friend almost exactly like that, except it had a 5850, for roughly $1600 in October.
And then there's my computer which is a quad core Phenom 2 at 3.4ghz with a 4870 that cost about $1100 with monitor. . Granted, this one "only" has a 24", but still.
Why dont we have HTC Hero in smartphones or in gadgets of the year!!!
@cswright
As long as it reads Apple, it will either rank 1 or 2. haven't you realize that this is Engadget by Apple Inc.?
@gadgetfanboy How is the iPad most anticipated? What happened to the oversized iPod 3G hate?
This is one of the most biased voting i have seen ever. Nexus one not listed for Most anticipated device of the year? I was more excited about N1 launch then for IPad. Well I think I can understand that engadget is highly biased for Apple, since they have an engadget app for IPhone, web os and blackberry but where is an andriod app?
@HardToBelieve
are u nuts? who EVER even bothers to talk about android games?
seriously, you must be dreaming. Android is known for just being a quality alternative os, not exactly for thier apps (though im sure there are plenty good ones, its doesnt begin to compare to the iphone- sorry charlie)
@dooglehead Tis a true statement.
iPad for most anticipated for 2010? Really?
