HTC Dragon Android device surfaces in firmware build, could pack 1GHz processor

This one's about as early as it gets, but what you're looking at above is purported to be a screenshot of a firmware build for a hereto unheard of Android device called the HTC Dragon. Now, that's interesting enough in and of itself, but the real kicker is that the phone is said to pack a 1GHz processor (most likely Snapdragon), which should help make HTC's Sense UI snappier than ever -- the rumored 800 x 480 display certainly doesn't hurt things either. Not much more to go on than that, unfortunately, but you can check out a few more exciting screenshots at the link below.

Someone's about to unleash the dragon...
I see what you did there.
The 64K question is how much battery power it will unleash! :)
Everyone knows why Atom is not used in smartphones as of today.
Because it is about power usage when it comes to cell phone.
Anyone wants to guess the usage hours?
No "the 64K question" does it have a chin?
i liek that drizzy drake guy, eh raps and doesnt afraid of anything
@N900 the TV Browser application might be an app for Qualcomm’s MediaFLO which is to watch TV on mobiles. that being said, this phone might be heading to AT&T or Verizon since these 2 carriers have MediaFLO supported handsets now. This is very exciting!!! i just hope the Dragon will have some great memory and battery specs. The year of the dragon is 2010: http://bit.ly/htc-dragon-point-of-view
Uh, why does the firmware appear to indicate this is the Toshiba Snapdragon based kit?
Android version of Leo?
Who is to say that Leo is not a winmo version of this phone? *cue creepy mysterious music*
My thoughts also. Thats even more tempting then the Leo itself.
Now *that* is interesting! Sounds like the perfect Android phone.
3.5mm jack please
I think HTC issued a statement after the G1 debacle that all their future phones would include 3.5mm jacks, so no worries
Tell that to my myTouch.
It's Obama's phone!
@Leo161: The mytouch is just the HTC Magic, which was released before that announcement.
They said that all phones designed after that statement would have a headphone jack. The MyTouch/Magic was already finalized and ready for release, it was too late to add one.
Would this be the first Android device with a higher resolution than HVGA?
Finally...........
it will the first cell phone, but i think archos android is the first device that has a resolution higher at 800 x 480
About freaking time. Looks like things are finally getting interesting.
yes, indeed
Finally! I'd run to the store for this one to any service provider except AT&T :).
Why all the excitement? I've seen this SS on quite a few sites today. SE Rachael is supposed to have Snapdragon too.
Because, unlike SE, HTC gets their products out in a reasonable time frame.
I've been waiting for the Rachael for too long. If the Dragon comes out first, bye bye SE.
And it's not made by Sony Ericsson so it might, y'know, be good.
it says "Drizzy Drake"
like the rapper Drake, that performs with Lil Wayne, Jaime Foxx, Jay-Z etc.
Drizzy is one of the ROM cooks on xda-developers for the G1/dream.
That's the first thing I noticed as well although I still have trouble thinking of him as more than one of those Canadian kids on Degrassi.
LMAO!!! I noticed that too!!!
BTW, the images are still 320x480. If they're true screen shots, then how do you estimate that the phone will be 800x480? Will someone go through so much trouble to resize those SSs to HVGA?
They're not screenshots from the phone itself, I don't think, just its firmware.
800 x 480???
That's almost half my monitor resolution :O!
Guess I need an upgrade.
Gosh these Android phones are taking so long to come out.
I'm debating on upgrading to either one of these Dragon devices, or maybe the HTC Leo. Both supposedly have 800x480 screens with 1GhZ snapdragon cpus, one's got android and the other Winmo. As long as this dragon has a decent sized screen (Leo has 4.3" LCD, hopefully this one's got a decent sized screen, maybe even OLED?! I can dream, right?). I don't know if I should go back to Windows Mobile, I currently have an iPhone 3g, upgraded from an AT&T tilt, which had winmo 6.1 before I got rid of it. I may go for android because it supports a capacitive screen, which only winmo 7 will support, so I don't get how in the demo videos, the Leo has multi-touch enabled. I've still got until December 12th until I'm upgrade eligible, so hopefully we find out a lot more by then. (and hopefully the Leo and dragon come out by around then or before)
Cool story, bro.
The Leo is capacitive, HTC added it themselves.
Cool picture bro
tl;dr
I haerd U liek Mudkips... What, we're not just sprouting random memes?
samzebian is a pretty cool guy, eh has iphone and doesn't afraid of anything
YES!!!!
Looking forward to seeing more and more HTC Android phones in the market place. I believe HTC has realized Android is their future. So eventually they will excrete WinMo from their business and switch completely to Android.
did you realize your username was i love microsoft?
Yeah. And my user name is still "I_Love_Microsoft"
You know at one time WinMo held roughly 25% of the market; now it's shrunk down to maybe less than 9%.
That's why Android is so important now; it is bringing real innovation and features real consumers want.
I wouldn't count MS out quite yet. They are good at pulling huge surprises from no where, and with the time and secrecy of Windows Phone 7 not too long away, I'm not going to be put any bets on yet. I just love that the competition is getting so strong. It's really pushing mobility tech forward like it should now. :-)
No, engadget, you are not going to deprive me of my Motorola Sholes/Tao/Droid
So what say you, we downgrade and get used to using 400MhZ mobile cpus, so that the aging battery technology can catch up later? Hell no, I want a faster phone, with awesome tech inside of it (think Tegra!) that will get me a decent battery life. I don't mind, as long as I can get a removable battery or portable usb battery that's capable of charging my phone (I hate the 2nd option though, I currently do that with my iphone)
I'm so happy this thought process is not very popular :).
Huh? Android could use the extra power provided by Snapdragon. Besides, these modern chipsets(Snapdragon, Tegra, OMAP3, etc) tend to use less battery than their older brethren.
It sounds like the perfect device, so of course it wont have a keyboard which is a deal killer for me.
