Dopod C750 and HTC Juno one and the same?
Unless our eyes are being mighty deceitful, IT168's photos of the Dopod (HTC's consumer brand for Asia) C750 sure look an awful lot like the HTC Juno image we've already seen. Granted, there's no way to confirm this suggestion just yet, but it's hard to deny that the two form factors are eerily similar. According to a (very) rough translation, the C750 boasts a 2.6-inch VGA (640 x 480) display, Windows Mobile 6, a microSD expansion slot, USB connectivity and a built-in camera to boot. I presume the headline should read "one AND the same"
Breaking news. Engadget does not know that Dopod is a subsidiary of HTC?
I don't even think they're called Dopod anymore in Australia - they've rebranded themselves to HTC already.
This is the same site that reported the takeover some time ago. Someone is not doing their research.
HTC bought Dopod didn't they? Dopod phones in Australia have all been rebranded as HTC.
Jon is right. Taiwan's manufacturer HTC produces Dopod phone.
um whats the deal with the suretype keyboard? i thought that was a RIM thing (with the occasional samsung license)
Regardless it's far, far better than a regular one with T9.
It's good to see more manufacturers doing away with them at last :)
Suretype is good for people who wants to type fast, but I prefer regular keypad/T9 for one handed use.
2.6" VGA screen? Wow.
Yes, Dopod is now called HTC Asia, but the transition seems to be going quite slowly. Heck, two of the three of the "Related" stories above are directly related to the buyout. It is still up in the air though, whether HTC will phase out the Dopod name on their devices for Asia. There is a brand recognition with Dopod. They may start calling them "Dopod by HTC" even.
One thing I don't get is the Dopod numbering convention. The C750, you would think, would be an upgraded version of the C730 - but it's not. The C730 is similar to a T-Mobile Dash in a BlackJack style form factor. Other than the 640x480 resolution, most of the other features are the same or a step backward.
I'm waiting for the new annoucements for the SmartPhone lineup that's coming up. Let's just hope that their new toys (ahem) phones are not all just mini/micro PC's.
The Juno/Dopod C750 with WiMo Pro (Pocket PC) and VGA would be hot, but with Standard (Smartphone), meh, I think I'll pass.
lol. Dopod was created by HTC when HTC was doing ODM for HP Ipaq so HP won't be pissed off. Now they have pissed off HP, they might as well sell their own HTC phone and forget about Dopod. :p
